Before joining Goodwill’s Second Chance program, Thomas went through a difficult period in his life that ultimately led to a five‑year prison sentence. Even during that time, those involved in his case described him as intelligent and capable — someone with real potential who had simply lost his way. While serving his sentence, Thomas made the decision that he would try to turn things around and commit to building a better future.
After completing his sentence, Thomas was referred to Goodwill’s Second Chance program. With guidance from his Case Manager, William Baxter, he began a Work Experience (WEX) assignment at Goodwill’s Industrial Services building. Thomas excelled quickly, showing strong work ethic and reliability. Soon after, Goodwill helped him secure full‑time employment as a painter with Koontz‑Wagner Electrical Services, giving him stable income and consistent hours. Thomas described the program as “a game changer,” crediting Goodwill for their encouragement and the transportation assistance that helped him get to work every day.
