While 12 weeks pregnant, Tamorrow was seriously injured in a car accident that left her with a broken jaw and a broken hand. During her recovery, she was matched with Ruth, a nurse with Goodwill’s Nurse-Family Partnership, who would become a steady source of support through the biggest transitions of her life.
Tamorrow had already spent much of her life managing a cognitive disability, frequent seizures, and ongoing medical needs. Then, shortly after giving birth, she suffered a severe stroke at age 31 that left her partially paralyzed on her left side and blind in her left eye. Unable to drive and without the strength to fully care for her newborn son, Tamorrow was still determined to be the mother he deserved.
Ruth was there through it all. She helped Tamorrow navigate appointments, understand her baby’s developmental milestones, and gain confidence as a first-time single parent. Sometimes that meant accompanying her to rehabilitation; sometimes it simply meant showing up to listen.
Their relationship grew into one built on trust. Ruth celebrated Tamorrow’s wins and reminded her of her strengths, encouragement that led her to Goodwill’s Excel Center, where a flexible schedule allowed her to continue her education while balancing motherhood and recovery.
Tamorrow graduated in 2026 with her Core 40 diploma, has enrolled at Ivy Tech to study Early Childhood Education, and recently secured a job.
With the support of Goodwill’s Nurse-Family Partnership and Excel Center, Tamorrow turned some of life’s toughest circumstances into a brighter future for herself and her son. Now she shares her story so others will reach for the support available to them, and keep going.
